The new painting series of the young Boricua artist Angel Rivera results most oneiric than abstract, who once again shocked the senses of his audience, challenging all perceptions with a pure chroma of bright colors and dark intentions. Dare to discover more here.
From the explosion to the commotion
SAN JUAN - It was about a year ago, when QPTV interviewed for first time this young plastic artist, mostly dedicated to the creation of abstract universes using paint as principal tool for his infinitive imagination.
His third show "Revelations", also showed just like this time, at the well known 2009 QPTV People's Choice Award nominee Biaggi & Faure Gallery, presented in that time a more aggressive point of view, plagued of chaos and internal fights as a reflection of the modern man.
For this exhibition named "Prophetic Dreams" (Sueños Proféticos), the artist left aside the pessimistic vision to let bloom a new perception pregnant with the feeling of colors and the pure nature of fantasy.
"I want to translate my unconscious thoughts and feelings to the canvas", said Rivera. "There was too much happening inside my head, inside my dreams, and I want to exteriorize the best way I know (…) every image came to me like a vision that I couldn't deny", added.
With this dream-like perspective of a distant world where perfection results more tangible than misunderstand, Rivera shows an optimistic side not often seen in his work.
This time the artist tries to connect each piece through a journey of memories, wishes and reconfortable landscapes where the sense of belonging must be looked on the edge of each emotion or the border of every canvas.
The collection is conformed by 15 pieces, most of them in large scale (as usual), including a couple of triptychs like "Tierra de las Maravillas" (Wonder Land) or "Fragmento de un Paisaje Herido" (Fragment of a Wounded Landscape); both excellent examples in the use of congruence in the chaos and the handling of its texture.
In addition, this time Rivera explores other worlds, far from his comfort zone, the artist challenged his skills to bring the intimacy of his personal galaxy, showing a hopeful perspective of the future, a little bit contradictory for the followers of his conceptual and typical work, but not annoying at all.
The exhibition will remain open to the visitors at the Biaggi & Faure Gallery, Tuesdays to Sundays from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM, until July 16. For more information call 787 277 2783. |
