One of the most recognized awards in the international and Latin music industry are without a doubt the Billboard Awards, which for 2010 will change its home, moving on to Puerto Rico. Keep reading and discover more details of this fascinating night, here.

SAN JUAN - After more than 20 years making history in its traditional Miami homebase, the Latin Billboard Awards will go on the road for the very first time taking place in Puerto Rico. The award night presented by State Farm, will be celebrated at the José Miguel Agrelot Coliseum, broadcasting live on April 29 of 2010 by the local TV network Telemundo.

The announcement was released on November as part of the agreement signed between Telemundo, Billboard and the Puerto Rico Tourism Company. Billboard's Latin Music Conference will take place April 26 to April 29 at the Conrad San Juan Condado Plaza Hotel in the Island.

This marks not only the first time the billboard awards move to Puerto Rico, but also the first time any major Latin music awards takes place in this country, one of the hotbeds of Latin music. Of the 17 artists that have reached No. 1 on the Billboard Top Latin Albums chart in the past 12 months, are Puerto Ricans.

Having the Billboards is a unique opportunity for the tourism in the Island and no doubt a fountain of incoming resources.

"Music is a big part of our culture. Our artists and sounds have traveled the globe. While names like Marc Anthony, Ricky Martín, Ednita Nazario, Luis Fonsi, Daddy Yankee among so many others, have positioned our Island at the center of the music industry for years, now is our time to show the world, that when it comes to first class music events, Puerto Rico does it better!", commented Jaime López, Executive Director of the Puerto Rico Tourism Company and the Puerto Rico Convention District, through a press release.

On the other hand the reaction of the native celebrities of Puerto Rico, as well international figures from other countries expressed their happiness about the good news through a special message sent to Billboard web site.

"My Island has always been witness to important musical events and for it to be the location of the 2010 Billboard Latin Music Awards brings great pride to our culture", said Ricky Martin.

"This is a win, win situation (…), the Billboard Latin Music Awards are our premier event. And we're coming home to Puerto Rico. The emotional center of Telemundo is here", mentioned Don Brown, President of Telemundo.

"We'll try to be the best hosts so that the artists, as well as the industry and the media alike feel right at home in Puerto Rico", said pop star Chayanne, who will probably participate in the April ceremony .

"Moving to Puerto Rico is a very exciting opportunity for Billboard as it extends the increasing international presence of the brand and allows us to expand the Billboard Latin Music Conference audience", says Howard Appelbaum, publisher of Billboard.

For Colombian singer Juanes it was great news to celebrate the award on the Island: "I celebrate with great joy the fact that Puerto Rico will be the location for the Billboard Latin Music Awards". The Mexican diva Paulina Rubio expressed "inspiring decision", while Spaniard singer Enrique Iglesias said: "What great news, the Billboards on the Island, I'm sure that it will be historic".

The awards show has already been seen in more than thirty countries worldwide and this year's edition aired live in high definition, it's been the first time a Spanish-language network has broadcasted nationally in true HD.
